Yard Sales & More....

One of my favorite weekend activities is checking out the yard sales around my community. The weather was pretty uncooperative today but I did manage to find an armoire to add a shabby touch to and a cute little plant stand for my front porch for $5. June definitely has been a rainy month in South Texas but I guess it is good for the garden. Speaking of the garden I have more roses blooming on the bush that I planted on my mom's birthday this year. I put two of them on my kitchen window sill and I know if she were here she would love them. They are old fashioned climbing roses and are so easy to grow. You just need something for them to climb against and right now it is the wooden fence in my backyard.

TG For The Weekend

Did I mention that I love weekends? The work week is so draining and even though I am busy on the weekends it allows me to recharge myself mentally. I went to the grocery store the other day to pick up a few things and they had these wonderful rosemary plants sitting out front. I absolutely love the smell of Rosemary and couldn't resist buying one. I took a few clippings from this plant so that I can root them and hopefully make a new plant. Here is a little history about Rosemary...

The Ancients were well acquainted with the shrub, which had a reputation for strengthening the memory. On this account it became the emblem of fidelity for lovers. It holds a special position among herbs from the symbolism attached to it. Not only was it used at weddings, but also at funerals, for decking churches and banqueting halls at festivals, as incense in religious ceremonies, and in magical spells.
At weddings, it was entwined in the wreath worn by the bride, being first dipped into scented water. Anne of Cleves, we are told, wore such a wreath at her wedding. A Rosemary branch, richly gilded and tied with silken ribands of all colours, was also presented to wedding guests, as a symbol of love and loyalty.

This is it!

This is the bed that I have been dreaming of! I don't know where I am going to find it but I have to have it or at least something similiar to it. I love shabby chic and antique pieces and this has both written all over it! I found the photo of the bed on this website Shabby Suite. Every month they showcase a different home decorated in true shabby chic style.

I was out shopping today at Kirklands which is one of my favorite stores and came across this little plaque. It reminded me so much of my mother. My mom had the biggest green thumb on the planet and always had beautiful flowers and plants. A garden really is a little patch of heaven!

In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful. ~Abram L. Urban

Oh The Babes!

I have to give a shout out to my best friend Annmarie for introducing me to the world of Knitted Babes. They are just the cutest little things and my daughter is fascinated by them! Annmarie bought me this book last month and I have managed to knit a whole 30 rows. My daughter Arianna keeps asking me when I am going to finish a doll for her; she is just so excited! I have to say my knitting skills are improving and hopefully by Christmas I can fill a box up with these dolls and their adorable little clothes.

Summer...

There is something about summer, the ocean and an afternoon thunderstorm that puts me in a nostalgic mood. I can remember many a summer living near the beach and sitting on my grandmother's wrap around porch witnessing nature in all it's glory. Life was simple then and sometimes we forget how much the simple things in life make us truly happy.
