Traditions

Warning: This will most likely be a rambling post :)

Sometimes I think too much and probably too hard on myself. I strive for perfection but end up failing miserably when I can't live up to all the expectations and goals I set for myself. I've learned a lot the past few years to let go of those expectations and allow things to happen at will. There are many things you are unable to control in this life and we tend to beat ourselves up too much. When did life get so complicated? As kids in my generation we didn't have all the modern luxuries we have now and I truly think we were happier as a society. Life was simple and cherished. I try to set traditions that I hope my children will remember fondly when they get older. I think children really do love those simple moments with family reading a book, playing a board game, drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace, hanging a favorite ornament on the Christmas tree or just snuggling and talking about silly things. These are the memories they will take with them through their adult lives; not the latest trendy toy wrapped under the tree. I think in this economy we as a nation are having to make adjustments and starting to realize what we thought was important really wasn't after all. Priorities are shifting and people are simplifying their lives more.

Realizing this I've tried to shift more time away from TV and more time devoted to reading. Reading has become a favorite holiday tradition in our home as we are a family of book lovers. The teachers at our school encourage reading everyday as it is proven to make children more receptive to learning. I think they are on to something and I'm sure I am one of Scholastic books best customers! This year's book of choice (pictured above and purchased through Amazon) is A Little House Christmas Treasury. It is based on the Little House on the Prairie series. I always read the books as a child and was pleasantly surprised when my kids started enjoying Laura's adventures.

So, I hope my thoughts and ramblings didn't cause too many yawns. I am ecstatic to get a four day weekend, headed to the office tomorrow for a few hours and hope to get in one last post before Thanksgiving. Until then...

Peace & Love,
Ann

I am so with you on this. Simple is better , less is more. Our teachers here for all my girls do the same with reading every night. I think there are going to be a few books under our tree to .
